How to Participate

Participating in Connectome 2026–2027 is simple. Follow the steps below to make the most of this opportunity to explore neuroscience, connectomics, and scientific research.

1. Explore the Competition Resources

We strongly recommend beginning with the following sections:

These resources introduce the scientific background, datasets, tools, research questions, and learning materials that will support your participation throughout the competition.

Throughout the Track 1 and Track 2 tutorials, we may occasionally refer you to the Programming Guide for additional background on programming concepts and software setup. Depending on your programming experience, you may find it helpful to work through some or all of the guide, which provides step-by-step instructions for installing Python and the required packages, setting up software such as Visual Studio Code, and learning the fundamentals of Python, NumPy, Pandas, and other tools used throughout the competition. So, don’t worry if you have never coded before—we have designed these resources to help you get started.


2. Attend Workshops and Guest Lectures

Throughout the competition, we may host optional workshops, research discussions, and guest lectures led by graduate researchers and faculty members.

All sessions will be recorded and uploaded to our YouTube channel.

These events are designed to help participants develop research skills, learn new techniques, and gain insights into careers in neuroscience and related fields.

6. Participation and Award Eligibility

Participants may engage with the competition in different ways depending on their goals.

Participation Certificate

To receive a participation certificate, participants must successfully complete and submit work for at least one competition track at any level.

To receive a participation certificate, submissions must demonstrate a genuine effort to engage with the competition. At a minimum, participants should make a reasonable attempt to use the provided tools, explore the datasets, and complete the activities associated with their chosen track.

When determining eligibility for a participation certificate, we place greater emphasis on effort and engagement than on obtaining specific results or conclusions. Detailed expectations can be found in the Selection Criteria section.
